We Hold These Truths 1991

In 1941, Norman Corwin assembled an all-star cast and won the biggest audience in history for his celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Bill of Rights.

This is a new version for the 200th Anniversary, updated by Corwin himself, as broadcast in 1991 over every national radio network in the United States, both public and commercial.

The incredible cast includes Richard Dysart, James Earl Jones, Jill Eikenberry, Esther Rolle, Tom Bosley, Bill Bixby, Lloyd Bridges, Pat Carroll, John Ireland, Fess Parker, Brenda Vacarro, Rene Auberjonois, Norman Lear, Ray Bradbury -- and many more.

This program is both a dramatization about the evolution and adoption of the original Bill of Rights in 1791, and an exploration of the meaning of ALL the amendments to our constitution. Corwin's writing has never been better, or more heartfelt. The production is illuminated with a beautiful original score by Libby Larsen.

Winner of a special Silver Gavel Award from the American Bar Association, Gold Medals for Best Special Event, Best Direction, and Best Writing at the N.Y. International Radio Festival, and a Silver Award for Spoken Arts from the C.P.B.

Produced by Judith Walcutt and directed by David Ossman for in conjunction with American Public Radio and WETA.
